Privacy policy

Last updated June 7, 2026

Muv is built to be private by design. It turns the movement data your iPhone and Apple Watch already collect into a calm dashboard - and it does that work on your device. There's no account to create, no server to sync to, and nothing about your movement leaves your iPhone unless you choose to share it.

What Muv reads

With your permission, Muv reads four kinds of data from Apple Health:

  • Steps - your daily step count.
  • Flights climbed - measured flights, plus estimated climbs from workouts like a stair-stepper.
  • Heart rate - used only to calculate your time in heart-rate zones (Zone 2, Zone 5, and the rest).
  • Workouts - to attribute movement and estimate flights where the iPhone did not measure them directly.

Access is read-only. Muv never writes to, edits, or deletes anything in Apple Health.

Where your data lives

Everything Muv reads stays on your iPhone, inside the app's private storage. Muv has no backend, no cloud database, and no analytics pipeline. Your steps, flights, zones, and the summaries Muv builds from them are never uploaded to us or to anyone else.

If you use Apple's encrypted device backup (iCloud or a local backup), your iPhone may include Muv's on-device data in that backup, the same way it does for other apps. That backup is controlled by Apple and your Apple account, not by Muv.

No account, no tracking

Muv does not ask for your email, phone number, name, or any login. The app contains no third-party analytics SDKs, no advertising, no fingerprinting, and no trackers. This website is built the same way - no third-party scripts following you around.

The one time you'd share an email with us is if you email us to request a TestFlight invite or to ask for help. We use that email only to reply to you.

HealthKit data

Muv uses Apple's HealthKit framework. In line with Apple's requirements, Health data accessed through Muv is never used for advertising or marketing, is never sold, and is never shared with third parties. It is used solely to show you your own movement inside the app.

Permissions & control

You decide which of the four data types Muv can read, and you can change your mind at any time:

  • Grant or revoke access per data type during onboarding, or later in Muv's settings.
  • Manage Muv's Health permissions directly in Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices on your iPhone.
  • Turning a data type off simply stops Muv from reading it; it does not change anything in Apple Health.

Deleting your data

You can remove everything Muv has stored at any time using Delete Muv Data in the app's settings. Deleting the app from your iPhone also removes all of Muv's on-device data. Because nothing is stored on a server, there's nothing for us to delete on our end.

Children

Muv is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Muv handles data, we'll update this page and revise the date above. Because Muv stays local-first and account-free, we do not anticipate changes that would move your data off your device.
